We're proud to be sourcing high quality, USDA human-grade ingredients from smaller farms. These are the same farms that stock your local Whole Foods & favorite restaurants. We only work with farms that never administer hormones & growth promoting antibiotics (a huge step up from conventional) & are certified humane through third-party audits like G.A.P. or the American Humane Program. By not relying on chemicals, our farmers focus on providing high quality food and a clean environment to raise healthy, happy animals.

We grind, mix & package all of your pets' meals in our USDA kitchens. This means we're holding ourselves to the higher food safety standards required for human food. Everything is made in small batches (each package is hand-labeled & checked for quality) and tested for pathogens, because your pet deserves the freshest food from farm-to-bowl.

At Viva, we take balanced nutrition very seriously—while developing our recipes, we worked with a variety of experts for the absolute best formulation.

We worked with Dr. Barbara Royal, a world-renowned integrative veterinarian & the past president of AHVMA who has extensive experience in not only veterinary care, but also nutrition, herbal remedies, acupuncture, and so much more. Additionally, we work with James Pendergast (protege of Steve Brown, the "Godfather of Raw") who is certified in Companion Animal Nutrition through the University of Illinois Animal Sciences College & is a current member of the American Academy of Veterinary Nutrition (AAVN). He was also the head formulator & Veterinary Sales Director at Darwin's Pet Food for more than a decade. Finally, we also consulted with Dr. Richard Patton who has a Ph.D. in small animal nutrition & has been the primary formulator for many fresh food companies. All three are top experts in the field of animal health & nutrition.

For us, working hand-in-hand with multiple experts is what makes our formulation so unique—we were able to draw from each of their different philosophies & expertise. Since we were focused on formulating with whole food ingredients, both our dog recipes & our cat recipes took over a year to finalize. During that time, we lab-tested over 50 unique whole food ingredients from various suppliers to obtain mineral & vitamin nutrient profiles. This allows us to be certain that when utilizing a whole food ingredient to satisfy nutrient levels, our source is exceeding those requirements.

Our Dog Recipes are formulated to AAFCO 2023 Dog Nutrient Profiles for Adult Maintenance & we also offer a Puppy Recipe that is optimized for growth (including large breed dogs). Our Cat Recipes are formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO 2023 Cat Food Nutrient Profiles for All Life Stages.
